STOCKTON, Calif. -- Joel Gamerov won his third straight singles match and San Diego earned its third straight 4-0 victory when it defeated Pacific on Saturday afternoon.
Gamerov led the Toreros (13-8, 7-1 WCC) by winning his doubles and singles matches. He teamed up with August Holmgren to help USD earn the doubles point before making quick work of Akram El Sallay, 6-2, 6-3, to earn his third straight singles victory.
"We played a complete match today," said head coach Ryan Keckley. "I was really happy to see our guys pull through a tight doubles point. We had many opportunities and shied away from the moment. We eventually rebounded and found our composure in order to secure the point."
David Norfeldt and Alex Araouzos won their match at doubles No. 3 against Mikayel Khachatryan and John Horoz Garner, 7-6 (7-5), to clinch the doubles point and give the Toreros an early 1-0 lead.
Norfeldt then shut out his singles opponent, 6-0, 6-0, to put USD up 2-0.
Gui Osorio won hits match at No. 2 against Tadiwa Chinamo, 6-1, 6-0 -- his first victory in singles since returning from a minor injury last week.
"In singles, we played as together as I have seen this team play," said Keckley. "I was proud of Gui and how he competed. He has battled through a lot this year and to see him come out with that kind of focus and determination really speaks volumes to who he is."
Gamerov capped the afternoon with a decisive victory against El Sallay to clinch the 4-0 victory for USD.
The Toreros conclude their regular season Sunday at Saint Mary's.
