SAN BRUNO, Calif. — After helping lead the Toreros to back-to-back sweeps at Seattle U and Portland over the weekend, San Diego volleyball's
Meghan Scholz and
Kylie Munday have been named the WCC Setter and Defensive Player of the Week for October 19, 2026, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday.
In on 12 of San Diego's 17 blocks this week,
Scholz averaged 2.00 blocks per set and led all players in blocks at both Seattle U and Portland. She had five block assists at Seattle U on Thursday, including one with
Nemo Beach that capped four straight Torero points for a 17-8 first-set lead. At Portland on Saturday, she posted seven blocks, three of them solo, with a solo block in every set, and she was in on all five San Diego blocks in the first set. Scholz also put down 16 kills on .387 hitting (16-4-31) and served two aces for the week, and her 25.5 points led the team. This marks Scholz's first career West Coast Conference honor, and she joins
Lauren Lynch (October 5) as the second Torero to receive the WCC's weekly defensive recognition this season.
On the other side of the ball, San Diego hit .376 (87-19-181) for the week withÂ
Munday setting all six sets. She handed out 65 assists, an average of 10.83 per set, and added four kills on nine error-free swings, 11 digs, six block assists and two aces. At Seattle U on Thursday, Munday had 35 assists and set
Kierstyn Barton for three kills in the final six rallies of the second set as the Toreros came back from 22-20 down to win it 25-23. Two days later at Portland, she added 30 assists and two aces as the offense hit .453, including .542 and .583 in the last two sets. She served the final four points of the second set, ending it with an ace, and served four more in a row, with another ace, during an 11-1 run in the third. This is her second WCC Setter of the Week award this season after also receiving it on August 31. Munday, the reigning back-to-back WCC Setter of the Year, has now earned the weekly honor six times in her college career.
In total, San Diego has received five WCC weekly awards this season, including two Defensive Player of the Week nods, one Freshman of the Week honor, and two Setter of the Week recognitions.Â
Scholz, Munday and the Toreros are back in action on Thursday night at Pacific.
