Toreros Claim City Championship

March 9, 2015

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Torero men's rowing team claimed their second consecutive City Championship title Saturday after some extremely good racing on Mission Bay.

"With this contest being the first real test of the spring, there are always some nerves to deal with as the boats launch," Head Coach Brooks Dagman said. "As I spoke with each of our racing teams prior to launching, I saw two things in the eyes of the athletes that all coaches hope to see on game day: confidence and resolve."

"This group was ready to race and they showed it on the course," Dagman continued. "Our second varsity eight was a real highlight because they were severely tested by an extremely capable entry from UCSD. All three of their racing pieces came down to a dead heat with about a minute to go in the piece. Our second varsity found another gear in those final minutes to get the edge and win. Racing does not get better than that!"

Look for a return to racing by the Toreros this coming Friday as they face UCSD, Gonzaga, and Santa Clara on Mission Bay.
