SAN DIEGO, Calif. - This weekend a select group of Toreros travel to Lake Natoma to compete in the Freshman Four event at the WIRA Championships.

As winners in the freshman four at the San Diego City Championships and the Newport Regatta, oarsmen Simon Finnie, Max O'toole, Sam Jones, Evan Nassar, and coxswain Sarah Goh have proven themselves race savvy and worthy of taking the trip to assert where USD stands in West Coast Rowing.

"It may seem a bit odd to just take the Freshman four to an event like WIRA whilst our Varsity and JV stay at home," said Head Coach Brooks Dagman. "But freshmen are the future of the program and getting in as many high level racing opportunities is vital to their growth and development as racers and varsity level athletes."

Catch the Toreros on Saturday in their first race at 1:20 p.m. in Lane 4. They race against Sonoma State, Sac State, SDSU, Washington State, Southern Oregon, and UC Davis. The top two crews progress to the Grand Final on Sunday at 12:00 p.m., and the third through sixth finishers compete in the Petite Final onSaturday afternoon at 4:30 & 4:40 p.m.
