JUNIOR (2013): Made 19 appearances as a relief pitcher for the Toreros, and had one start... helped lead the team to the WCC Tournament championship, and into the NCAA Regionals...posted a 2-0 overall record, with a 4.21 ERA in 25.2 innings of work...he recorded 20 strikeouts and only issued 10 walks...had his longest outing of the season against Stony Brook, allowing no runs on two hits , while striking out two in 4.0 innings of work (3/3)...picked up a win against BYU, allowing one run on three hits in 3.0 innings of work. COLLEGE: Played at Oxnard College for one season...stared in 12 games and recorded 49 strikeouts in 88.1 innings of work...bolstered a 3.86 GPA...was named second team All-Western State Conference. HIGH SCHOOL: Played baseball at Royal High School...as a senior he posted a 0.91 ERA in six outings on the mound...had 11 total strikeouts in 23 innings of work...he hit .405, and had four triples and eight doubles. PERSONAL: Sheldon Ross Ekstrand was born on June 10, 1992 in Portland, Ore....he is the son of Tim and Randi Ekstrand... was recruited by Pepperdine, Central Arkansas, Hawaii, Texas-Pan America, New Mexico State, Washington and UC San Diego...chose to attend USD because of the great baseball program, along with challenging academics...notes that he aspires to go to medical school and become a neurosurgeon or cardiothoracic surgeon.
