Tim Mickelson has been named the head men's golf coach at the University of San Diego. Mickelson, who has been an assistant men's golf coach at San Diego State the past two years, replaced Tim Moher and began his new duties July 1st.
Mickelson, the younger brother of current PGA tour pro Phil Mickelson, was an outstanding collegiate player at two PAC-10 programs. He played his first three seasons at Arizona State (1995-98) where he was a member of the 1996 NCAA Championship team. He went on to play his senior year at Oregon State University (1998-2000) where he led Oregon State to a 2nd place finish in the 2000 PAC-10 Championships, and also finished 2nd individually. The current holder of numerous OSU golf records, including low 18, 36, 54, and 72 hole scoring records, he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies.
The past two seasons as assistant to Dale Walker at San Diego State, he helped lead the program to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Regionals, as well as an appearance in the 2003 NCAA National Championships this past spring. Additionally, he played a key role in recruiting, scheduling, fund-raising, daily practices, booster/alumni relations, and the running and operation of two tournaments annually. Mickelson is also the published author of a book about college golf recruiting titled "The Road to College Golf."
