(Santa Barbara, CA; Sandpiper Golf Course) -- The University of San Diego Toreros shot a final round team score of 297 to place 19th at the 2003 BITE Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. The Toreros finished at 889 (+25 over par) for the three rounds at the 7,044 yard, par 72 course. Fresno State won the team honors with a score of 841 - they held off UC Irvine (843) and UC Riverside (845) in the twenty-one team tournament.
USD's Michael Shelly shot a final round 69 and was the Toreros' top finisher placing in a tie for 52nd at 220 (74-77-69). Shelly was followed by Tim Cureton (T70th at 222; 71-75-76), Jimmy Harris (T78th at 224; 73-74-77), Preston Lancaster (T84th at 226; 76-74-76) and Jeb Stewart (98th at 232; 74-82-76).
Fresno State's Nick Watney ran away with medalist honors finishing 17 under par at 199 (67-64-68). Rounding out the top-five individually was Mike Lavery of UC Irvine (T2nd at 208; 70-67-71), Brendan Steele of UC Riverside (T2nd at 208; 69-68-71), and a trio of players at 209 - Dan Swanson of UTEP, MIchael Wilson of Cal and Martin Laird of Colorado State.
