The University of San Diego men's basketball team will have ten home games televised by Channel 4 San Diego this coming season, it was announced today by Ky Snyder, USD Executive Director of Athletics. Beginning with their November 27th (4:05 p.m.) contest against San Jose State University.
USD will air the following home contests - Eastern Washington (Dec. 13th; 7:05 p.m.), Northern Arizona (Dec. 18th; 4:05 p.m.), UC Santa Barbara (Dec. 22nd; 7:05 p.m.), Creighton University (Dec. 31st; 4:35 p.m.), Portland (Jan. 20th; 7:05 p.m.), Gonzaga (Jan. 22nd; 4:05 p.m.), Loyola Marymount (Feb. 3rd; 7:05 p.m.), Santa Clara (Feb. 24th; 7:05 p.m.) and Saint Mary's (4:05 p.m.). For the first time ever all USD Saturday games will begin at either 4:05 p.m. or 4:35 pm.
"We are excited to partner with Channel 4 San Diego and the people at Cox Communications to be able to bring Torero Basketball to San Diego County," said Ky Snyder, Executive Director of Athletics. "We think this is a great opportunity to showcase the quality of our Division I program and specifically our basketball program."
Including their two local road games at Cox Arena against San Diego State (Dec. 1st; 7:05 p.m.), and the USC Trojans in the San Diego Slam (Dec. 11th; 5:05 p.m.), the Toreros will have a total of 12 games aired live on Channel 4 San Diego. Local NBC sportscaster Jim Stone will call the play-by-play for USD's home telecasts, and Jim Brogan will sit in as color analyst.
The Toreros will open their season at Arizona on November 16th in the Preseason NIT with the game being televised nationally on ESPN2. The Toreros will also have three West Coast Conference games televised by Fox Sports Net (West) - at Loyola Marymount (Jan. 9th; 1:05 p.m.), and at home against Pepperdine (Feb. 5th; 4:35 p.m.) and San Francisco (Feb. 9th; 7:35 p.m.).
USD Athletics and Channel 4 San Diego will also air a Torero women's doubleheader from Jenny Craig Pavilion on Tuesday, November 23rd. The USD women's basketball team will take on San Diego State at 5:00 p.m., followed by the USD women's volleyball team taking on the SDSU Aztecs at 8:00 pm.
