Strong Showing Has USD 7th After Round 1

At BlackHorse Golf Club in Cypress, just northwest of Houston, Texas, the San Diego golf team began its spring season with an overall team score of 305, placing them 7th out of 15 teams competing in the mid-week event. USD's Jimmy Harris (37-38; 75) is just three over par and in 20th place after round one. Two rounds are scheduled for Monday with 56 total holes to be played Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 9-10).

Joining the Toreros in the 15-team field are host Rice, Michigan, Notre Dame, Mississippi State, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Virginia, Louisiana-Lafayette, Denver, Texas State, North Texas, UT-San Antonio, UT-Arlington, and UT-Pan American.

The format for the 54-hole tournament will be stroke play, with 36 holes on Monday followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Play begins at 7:30 am both days with a shotgun start. Tuesday's round will be seeded based on team scores from the first 36 holes.

Results will be posted on the Rice Owls Web Site, www.riceowls.com, after each day's competition.
