The University of San Diego football program, under the direction of first year head coach Jim Harbaugh, will have 43 new faces joining them this August when camp begins. Thirty of the recruits, including eleven from the San Diego County area, come from the state of California. The rest of the Torero recruiting class comes from the states of Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois and Washington.
"I am pleased and excited about the group of outstanding student-athletes we have joining our program and university," said first year head coach Jim Harbaugh. "Our entire staff worked extremely hard with our recruiting efforts and I believe it will pay dividends this coming fall."
The eleven student-athletes from the San Diego County area include defensive end Nick Badin (Palomar JC/Rancho Bernardo HS), defensive back Adam Burke (Palomar JC/Fallbrook HS), defensive back Daniel Cornsweet (Carlsbad; Los Costa Canyon HS), running back Josh Denton (San Diego; Eastlake HS), wide receiver Kellen Henry (San Diego; Horizon HS), defensive back Michael McBride (San Diego; USC/Santa Fe Christian), defensive back Freddrick Montgomery (San Diego; Eastlake HS), defensive lineman Cameron Ross (San Diego; Horizon HS), defensive lineman Erik Torkelson (Santee; Westhills HS), offensive lineman Dean Kabiling (San Diego; University City HS) and running back James Rogan (Coronado; Coronado HS).
Rounding out the recruiting class from the state of California is DB Michael Christensen (Oak Park; Oak Park HS), CB Carlos Correa (Milpitas; Milpitas HS), WR Michael De Van (El Toro; El Toro HS), K Chris Diaz (Ventura; St. Bonaventure HS), OL Chris Gianelli (Rancho Palos Verdes; Peninsula HS), QB Josh Johnson (Oakland; Oakland Tech HS), DB Mark Johnson (Santa Margarita; Santa Margarita HS), DL Mike McDonald (Camarillo; St. Bonaventure HS), OL Jason McFarland (San Jose; Lehigh HS), DL Cody Nenadall (San Luis Obispo; San Luis Obispo HS), TE Brett O'Connor (Laguna Beach; Laguna Beach HS), K/P Hugh Parker (Dana Point; St. Margarets HS), OL Anthony Romanelli (Templeton; Templeton HS), TE Mitch Ryan (Jackson; Argonaut HS), DL Travis Scudday (Anaheim; Servite HS), WR Andrew Smyth (Mountain View; St. Francis HS), LB Rich Stachowski (Orinda; Miramonte HS), WR Ken Stivers (Sacramento; Del Campo HS) and OL Matt Vuoso (San Pedro; El Camino JC/San Pedro HS).
Eight student-athletes are arriving from the state of Colorado. The Colorado recruits include RB/P Brian Beckord (Boulder, CO; Boulder HS), DB John Bowlen (Denver, CO; Denver Kent HS), DL Gabe DeAnda (Denver, CO; Mullen HS), DB Ryan Echer (Denver, CO; Mullen HS), LB Tyler Evans (Englewood, CO; Cherry Creek HS), LB Jared Forrester (Aurora, CO; Regis Jesuit HS), WR John Matthews (Aurora, CO; Regis Jesuit HS) and TE Zach May (Greeley, CO; Greeley West).
Rounding out the Torero recruiting group are QB Ben Hannula (Tacoma, WA; Bellarmine Prep), DB Derek Hinkley (Honolulu, HI; Punahou HS), QB Chris Jansen (Libertyville, IL; Libertyville HS), WR Thomas Leon (Tucson, AZ; Tucson Magnet HS) and DL Chris Pennick (Tucson, AZ; Canyon Del Oro HS).
These 43 recruits will be joining approximately 70 returners from last year's Torero squad that finished 8-2 overall and earned a share of the Pioneer Football League North Division title with their 3-1 mark.
