The USD women's and men's rowing teams will be in action this coming weekend, April 2-3, as they take part in the 32nd annual San Diego Crew Classic at Mission Bay. Expected crowds of 15-20,000 will watch 3,400 athletes from 150 rowing programs across the country, including 16 collegiate teams competing in the Cal Cup competition. Jumbotron screens will help fans keep track of the action on an up-close basis. The San Diego Crew Classic has been held at Mission Bay since 1972. Cost for the all-day event is $7 per day, per person or $10 for both days. The event is free to children under-13 and people of active military duty. Parking at Vacation Isle is free with a shuttle service provided, while up-close parking costs $10. On Saturday the USD Varsity Women's Eight (lane 4) will race in The Cal Cup heat at 8:10 a.m.; the USD 2nd Novice Eights (lane 6) will race in the JV Women's Eights at 10:10 a.m.; the USD JV Eight (lane 6) will race in the JV Women's Eights at 10:30 a.m.; the USD 1st Novice Eight (lane 7) will race in the Women's Collegiate Novice at 11:30 a.m.; and the USD 3rd Novice Eight (lane 1) will race in the Women's Open Eights at 1:30 p.m.
The Torero men (lane 1; heat A) will compete in the Men's Cal Cup at 7:30 a.m., followed by a boat in the Men's Collegiate Novice at 9:30 a.m. (lane 1; heat A).
USD Crew Classic Alumni, Friends, and Family are welcome to attend a happy hour reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Degheri Alumni Center on the campus of USD.
Sunday's finals are determined by results from Saturday's performances. Finals run from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The USD Rowing Barbeque will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the south end of Crown Point Shores at the USD Tent.
