USD Women's Rowing brought home the Berg Cup for the second straight year, winning this year's regatta hosted by Orange Coast College in Newport Beach, CA. Proving their strength on the race course, the First Varsity Eight finished 9 seconds in front of the pack, which included Orange Coast College, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, and UC San Diego. The Toreros took the lead right off the starting line and continued to expand their distance on nearest competitor, Santa Barbara, over the 2000 meters.

USD controlled the race, start to finish, under-stroking the field and making it look effortless. In the Second Varsity Eight race, the USD JV women controlled their event as well with a solid, well-rowed piece. They finished first, and 6 seconds ahead of second place finisher, OCC.

In the Vartsity Four, USD made a strong showing, finishing third ahead of UCSB, UC Irvine and Chapman. "I'm really proud of the Varsity Four," commented Coach O'Hara. "There were three Novices in that line-up, and this was their first 2K race ever! They did an excellent job of not only rowing well, but refusing to be intimidated by the more experienced, varsity crews on the line with them. They conducted themselves like veterans!"

The USD Novice raced to top finishes as well, the First Noivce placing second among a field of 7 boats in a very tight race, and the Second Novice finishing third ahead of UCSB and Irvine. A great day was had by all Toreros, and the Berg Cup has been returned to the trophy shelf at USD where it belongs.

The Toreros next race at the San Diego Crew Classic April 2nd and 3rd.
