EIGHT TOREROS SELECTED TO WCC SPRING ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS

May 27, 2005

The 2005 West Coast Conference Spring All-Academic teams honor some of the league's finest examples of the consummate scholar-athlete. The University of San Diego placed eight of its student-athletes on WCC Spring All-Academic Squads with men's golf, women's rowing and men's tennis each placing two representatives. At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports. To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team.

The following Torero student-athletes were recognized: Justin Blaine (Westlake Village, CA), a senior on the baseball team (Business major, 3.67 grade-point average); Jimmy Harris (El Cajon, CA), a junior on the men's golf team (Business, 3.44); Michael Shelly (Tumon, Guam), a senior on the men's golf team (Business, 3.64); Angela Chiarenza (Long Beach, CA), a senior on the women's rowing team (Urban Studies, 3.46); Patricia Zawidski (Phoenix, AZ), a senior on the women's rowing team (Humanities, 3.72); Oscar Plotnik (Mexico City, Mexico), a junior on the men's tennis team (Business, 3.50); Pierrick Ysern (Paris, France), a junior on the men's tennis team (Business, 3.61); and Lauren Kazarian (Fresno, CA), a senior on the women's tennis team (Accounting, 3.71).

This is the third time Lauren Kazarian has been named to the WCC Spring All-Academic Team for women's tennis. Second timers include Justin Blaine, Jimmy Harris and Pierrick Ysern.
