USD Tennis Teams Getting Involved in the Community

Nov. 6, 2008

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - On Monday, November 3rd, 2008, the University of San Diego's men's and women's Tennis teams participated in the third Annual Tennis Clinic to benefit disabled and intellectually challenged athletes, some of which are competitors in the San Diego County Chapter of the Special Olympics. The clinic teaches more than a dozen aspiring athletes the skills they need to succeed on the Special Olympics tennis courts.

Coaches and players from USD began with a short demonstration of clinic activities and basic tennis moves. Participating athletes were then separated into small groups and rotated through different drill stations such as Serve and Return, Groundstroke, Volley, Doubles, and Running Doubles. The athletes learned essential tennis skills at each stop, and most importantly, were encouraged and cheered on.

The event was hosted by the Peninsula Tennis Club in Ocean Beach (San Diego) and the entire clinic was run by volunteers.
