Below is a question and answer session with USD freshman men's tennis player, Dean Jackson.

1. What are some of your pre-match rituals?

I have to shower before a match and I have to get out of bed with my right foot. As with most sports, I avoid the lines when I am warming up. And if I win I will stay on the same bench for the next match or swap benches if I loose.

2. Is there a specific player you model your game after and for what reason?

Rafael Nadal because he is #2 in the world, left-handed, and I really admire his "grinding from the baseline" technique.

3. What song gets you fired up for game time?

Surprisingly, I don't listen to music before the game but when I don't have a match it's usually hip-hop or something mellow.

4. If you had an opportunity to face anyone in a match, who would it be and why?

Hands down, Roger Federer.

5. Serena or Venus Williams?

I've always thought Serena was the more physical of the two sisters even though Venus has received more recognition throughout their careers.

6. What do you feel is your greatest strength? Weakness?

My forehand is very strong. However, sometimes I find that I loose my intensity and focus during matches.

7. What is your favorite thing to do in San Diego?

I love the beach life of San Diego. There isn't a whole lot of time for it but when I can, I love to surf.

8. What is your favorite activity off the court?

I really like people. I would have to say socializing.

9. If you could go on any game show, what would it be?

I don't even own a TV. There just isn't any time. But I do like Deal or No Deal.

10. Where is your favorite USD spot on campus?

Right in front of Copley Library, at the top of the stairs. You can see the Bay, Seaworld, and basically look out over all of San Diego.
