San Diego, Calif. - The University of San Diego and the Department of Athletics joined thousands of San Diegans for a day of culturally rich activities and entertainment at the 29th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade on Saturday, January 17th.
The parade was held in honor and remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and hosted by the Zeta Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, the oldest African American fraternity in America, founded in 1906. "This is one of the largest celebrations of its kind in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the United States". The parade was filled with floats, marching bands, antique cars, drill teams, colleges, fraternities, churches, organizations, and peace & youth groups.
In all, more than 100 USD student-athletes participated in the parade and walked through downtown San Diego's East Village. Joining them were over 50 faculty, staff and top administrators, some of whom marched with their spouses, friends -- and their pets.
