USD had three student-athletes named San Diego Hall of Champions Stars of the Month for April. The trio includes Taylor Hensley (softball), James Meador (baseball) and Gunner Wiebe (golf). Since the start of the school year back in September the Toreros have now had fourteen student-athletes receive a total of 20 Star of the Month awards.
Taylor Hensley, a sophomore catcher from San Diego, went 8-for-35 with half of her hits going for home runs. She scored six runs, drove in 8 RBI, tallied a .629 slugging percentage, and recorded a .341 on-base percentage. The Toreros, who tallied 5 wins during the month of April, are currently in second place in the PCSC Coastal Division with an 8-6 mark.
Meador, last year's WCC Player of the Year and one of two Toreros named San Diego Hall of Champions Amateur Stars of the Year, helped the Toreros to a 12-0 WCC start. For the month of April the senior outfielder from Ramona batted .400 (22-for-55) with 7 doubles, 2 homers and 19 RBI. He earned WCC Player of the Week honors and had a 4-for-5 game with 4 RBI and a homer against Gonzaga.
Wiebe earned his second Star of the Month honor this year after he won medalist honors at both tournaments the Toreros played in during the month of April. At the Wyoming Cowboy Classic he beat out 129 golfers with a 7-under par total of 203 (67-70-66). He also became just the 4th Torero to win medalist honors at the West Coast Conference Championships with an even-par 216 (73-71-72) over the Hiddenbrooke course in Vallejo, California. USD placed second in both events.
