Klara Wischer Highlights

(San Diego, CA) - University of San Diego women's basketball head coach Cindy Fisher and her staff announced the signing of Klara Wischer to a national letter of intent and scholarship agreement beginning with the 2011-12 campaign. Wischer, a 6-2 junior forward-center from Melbourne, Australia, will have two years of eligibility with the Toreros.

"Klara is a very talented post player who is going to bring great versatility and strength to our post play," said USD head coach Cindy Fisher. "I am thrilled to have her join our USD family, she is a great student and an outstanding person."

The past two seasons Wischer played at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kansas. This past season she averaged 12.1 points per game to go with her team-leading 8.6 rebounding average as she helped lead the Thunderbirds to a 27-9 overall record and 12-4 league mark (KJCCC). Competing in all 36 contests, she also led the team in blocks (64) and steals (128) while dishing off a respectable 130 assists. She converted 44.1% of her shots from the field (193x438) and cashed in on 68.1 percent of her free throw attempts (47x69).

The Thunderbirds won the 2011 Region VI Championship and placed 8th in the NJCAA Women's Championship. Wischer was selected 2011 Region VI First Team, as well as being named to the 2011 Region VI All-Tournament Team. Additionally, she was named to the league's All-Academic Team. During her freshman year she averaged 4.9 ppg and 3.5 rpg.

Wischer, who plans on majoring in English, chose USD for its great basketball program, athletic reputation, beautiful campus and the outstanding year-round weather. She chose USD over the following schools that recruited her - Wyoming, Creighton, Colorado State, Missouri-Kansas City, and Kent State. Besides basketball, she enjoys to travel and experience different cultures.
