WCC Spring All-Academic

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The 2011 West Coast Conference Spring All-Academic teams honor some of the league's finest examples of the consummate scholar-athlete. At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports. To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team. This year's list includes 14 USD Toreros from five USD spring teams.

"The West Coast Conference is very proud to honor and recognize these exceptional student-athletes for their exemplary efforts in the classroom and on the fields of play," said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. "Our institutions strive to balance academic achievement in the classroom with success on the field, and this list is evident of that effort."

Women's Rowing was represented by three first team honorees - senior Taylor Caldwell (3.785 GPA, Biochemistry), senior Marilyn Smith (3.455 GPA, Electrical Engineering), and Hannah Patrick (3.507 GPA, Psychology). A trio of women's rowers was selected honorable mention - Melanie Lucas-Conwell, Nichole Norby, and Kaitlin Soper.

Men's Tennis had three student-athletes named to the First Team - senior Patrick Pohlmann (3.491 GPA, Finance), senior Dean Jackson (3.205 GPA, Accountancy) and junior Thibaut Visy (3.359 GPA, Finance). For Women's Tennis, two Toreros were named First Team - junior Juliette Coupez (3.819 GPA, Mechanical Engineering) and sophomore Laura Claus (3.932 GPA, Business).

Baseball was represented by senior Scott Schauer (3.22 GPA, Mathematics) on the First Team and Tony Strazzara on the honorable mention list. Rounding out USD's honorees is sophomore golfer Leon Knoll (3.75 GPA).
