SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The University of San Diego has been ranked 48th among Division I institutions by NCSA Athletic Recruiting in the ninth NCSA Collegiate Power Rankings, released on Friday. The Toreros came in at No. 96 overall among NCAA colleges and universities in the rankings, which measure academic and athletics standards of all NCAA athletic programs across the country. The Power Rankings were developed to help prospective student athletes and their families evaluate the particular strengths of the top colleges and universities at the Division I, II and III levels. Fewer than 6% of colleges and universities earn a spot in NCSA Athletic Recruiting's Top 100 for 2011, and the University of San Diego is in this elite class.

The Toreros are coming off a 2010-2011 academic year in which they captured their fifth consecutive West Coast Conference Commissioner's Cup, becoming the first WCC school to do so. USD also won WCC titles in volleyball, women's rowing, and men's tennis during the 2010-2011 campaign while seeing 33 student-athletes earn first-team all-conference honors, including seven conference players of the year. In addition, 165 Torero student-athletes were named to the conference Honor Roll last season for having GPAs of 3.0 or above.

The Collegiate Power Rankings from NCSA Athletic Recruiting are calculated for each Division I, II and III college and university by averaging student-athlete graduation rates, academic rankings provided by U.S. News & World Report, and the strength of athletic departments as determined by the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup.

These Power Rankings are only one example of NCSA Athletic Recruiting's commitment to redefining collegiate recruiting. As the leading athletic recruiting network, NCSA connects more than 35,000 college coaches with student-athletes who hope to pursue both higher education and the chance to compete in athletics at the college level.
