Michael Wagner Named WCC Pitcher of the Month

May 8, 2012

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Sophomore right-hander Michael Wagner of the 18th-ranked University of San Diego baseball team has been named the West Coast Conference Rawlings Pitcher of the Month, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Wagner, a 6-4 sophomore from Las Begas, Nev., had a solid month of April, as he posted a 1-0 record with seven saves, and bolstered a 1.38 ERA. Wagner only issued seven walks, while recording 17 strikeouts in 10 appearances and 13.0 innings of work. Wagner also set the new USD and WCC single-season record for saves during the month, now at 19 for the season. Wagner had one of the most productive weeks come from April 9-15. Wagner made four appearances and recorded four saves in this week, which earned him the WCC Pitcher of the week distinction. Wagner set the USD single-season saves record in the win against cross-town rival San Diego State (4-9), then set the WCC single-season record against Portland (4-28).

Wagner and the Toreros will return to action this afternoon as they host UC Irvine in a 3 p.m. non-conference game at Cunningham Stadium.
