Oct. 20, 2014 SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego swept the West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors in both men's and women's soccer as well as Volleyball. Taking home the honor for men's soccer was Connor Brandt, while Jacqueline Altschuld was honored for women's soccer, and Alaysia Brown took home the honors for volleyball. Combined, these teams posted a 4-0 record, with both women's soccer and volleyball taking down top-10 opponents.
Connor Brandt tallied four points over the weekend, helping the Toreros start out WCC play 2-0-0. The senior midfielder scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute in USD's 2-0 win over Saint Mary's Friday evening. On Sunday, he assisted both Torero goals to help USD come back to knock off Pacific 2-1. Brandt now leads the team in assists (four) and points (12).
Altschuld helped lead USD to a 2-1 upset win over No. 7 Pepperdine. This was Pepperdine's first home loss of the season, and USD's fourth win against a ranked opponent. Altschuld factored into the match by simply recording one assist and scoring the game-winning goal. This was Altschuld's third goal of the season and second game-winner of the year.
Brown recorded a match-high 22 kills on .288 hitting to lead San Diego to a 3-2 upset victory against No. 8 BYU. The victory snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Cougars and handed BYU its first league loss of the season. Brown added a pair of digs and two blocks (one solo) as the Toreros improved to 6-2 in conference play.
