Kalaydjian and Angus lead Toreros into the weekend

MALIBU, Calif â€" The Toreros finished day two of the ITA Regional Championships on Friday with victories by Jordan Angus and Romain Kalaydjian. The two also advance to the doubles quarterfinals with their partners Filip Vittek and Joshua Page respectively.

Angus started the tournament with a bye and a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Cal Poly's Sreyas Kolackalam on Thursday. Today he topped Morgan Mays from UC Santa Barbara 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the round of 16. He will face Naoki Takeda (No. 37) from Arizona.

Kalaydjian started his run with a first round defeat of USC's Conner Farren (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5)) before besting Nico Marten of UC Irvine 6-2, 6-4. In today's match he faced UCLA's Karue Wiele Sell, the USD senior won by a final score of 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles play No. 17 Angus and Vittek have defeated a pair of foes by the score of 8-4. On Thursday they beat Loyola Marymount's Alexander Bourgeois and Lukas Moenter. Friday's match saw the USD duo secure a victory over USC's Thibault Forget and Tanner Smith. Tomorrow Angus and Vittek will face Gabriel Sindney and Guiherme Ristow Hadlich from Pepperdine.

Kalayjian and Page started with an 8-2 victory against the USC tandem of Henry Ji and David Laser. They continued with another 8-2 defeat of Cal Poly's Benjamin Donovan and Corey Pang. In today's action it was Justin Agbayani and Sebatian Heim who suffered an 8-2 loss at the hands of Kalaydjian and Page.

In singles consolation play James Ponwith advanced to the round of 16 with a 6-0, 4-6, 10-6 win over Scotland Garapedian of Pepperdine. Vittek (No. 47) recorded a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Pepperdines Logan Hall. Page moved past Hawaii's Marcel Chan with a 6-2, 6-4 decision whil Pratt Keerasuntonpong was edged out 6-3, 5-7, 11-9 by Grand Canyon's Meidy Chazeau.

The tournament continued tomorrow with doubles play starting at 9:00 a.m.
