Oct. 31, 2016 SAN DIEGO, Calif. -With a third place finish in the Novice Eight, as well as a 6th place finish in front of WCC rivals Santa Clara and Gonzaga, the University of San Diego men's rowing team made the most of a wet weekend in Sacramento.
"This has become the premier fall race on the west coast, states Head Coach Brooks Dagman. Racing against defending national champion Cal, as well as Stanford and our top WCC opponents, the team was really able to step up in the eights. The racing lineups did not have much time training together due to our top four racing in Boston a week ago. I am proud of what we managed on Saturday.
The novice 8 boat of comprised of Simon Finnie, Jack Posthauer, Max O'toole, Evan Nassar, Liam McCann, Sam Jones, Matt Clarkson, Michael Darby, and coxwain Sarah Anne Goh, took home a third place finish with a time of 17:31.9, which was just behind the boat from Stanford, and first place Santa Clara.
The varsity 8 finished the race in 10th place with a time of 17:39.0. This varsity 8 boat was rowed by coxwain Will Graf, Connor Olson, Nick Watson, Nick Bea, Owen Chase, Jack Pokalsky, Parker Danz, Luke Walbeck, Sam Stephens.
Look for some local racing that is coming up in two weeks at the San Diego Fall Classic on November 13th.
