Dec. 1, 2016 SAN DIEGO, Calif. - USD Football is proud to announce the launch of Making Team History, a ChangeFUNDING campaign seeking to increase the amount of alumni, family and friends of the program supporting the 2016 during this historic season. The goal of $9,942 is based on the number of miles traveled by the 2016 PFL Champions to reach their rivals, including the upcoming trip to face the No. 1 seed, North Dakota State.
Building a Championship program requires many people and resources. Our program's strength is the result of the people that surround us. The 2016 Torero Football team dominated the Pioneer Football League (10-1, 8-0 PFL), finishing undefeated in league and started the FCS Playoffs ranked No. 24 in the nation. The Toreros win against No. 21 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the first round of playoff was described by some experts as the biggest upset in FCS Playoffs history. In words of Torero defensive end Jonathan Petersen after the game, "We have competed in many pressure situations this year. What has worked in those situations is we reminded ourselves to be fearless. Pressure doesn't affect you if you're fearless."
