SAN DIEGO (JAN. 16, 2017) - Record books across the country took a beating from a quartet of college standouts who call San Diego home. USD's Jonah Hodges, along with Donnel Pumphrey (SDSU), Kelsey Plum (UW) and Calvin Munson (SDSU) will be honored as Amateur Stars of the Year at the 71st Salute to the Champions on Feb. 21 at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center.

Hodges led USD to its first-ever Football Championship Series post-season victory, a 35-21 win over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, as well as the Pioneer League title when he rushed for 1,454 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was named the PFL Offensive Player of the Year and USD's Most Valuable Player as the Toreros finished 10-2 on the season and with a final national ranking of No. 19.

He is joined by San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey who worked his way up to the top of the NCAA's all-time career rushing list; former La Jolla Country Day basketball star Kelsey Plum rewrote the Pac-12 career scoring record; and San Diego State linebacker Calvin Munson collected 116 tackles-43 more than the next Aztec, leading SDSU to an 11-3 record.

The same event will feature the induction into the Breitbard Hall of Fame of former San Diego Chargers center Nick Hardwick; high school, college and professional women's basketball star Candice Wiggins and the late Johnny Ritchey who broke the color barrier for the San Diego Padres in the old Pacific Coast League.

Pumphrey, who is now looking forward to the NFL Draft, broke loose for a 15-yard gain against the University of Houston in the Las Vegas Bowl to push his career rushing numbers to 6,405 yards, passing Wisconsin's Ron Dayne atop the all-time list. He led the Aztecs to the Mountain West Conference West regular-season title, the MWC post-season crown and helped SDSU top Houston 34-10, lifting his team to a No. 25 ranking nationally.

Plum, who led LJCD to a state title, raced past Stanford's Chiney Ogwunike atop the Pac-12 career scoring list in mid-December, surpassing Ogwunike's 2,737 points after edging past Breitbard Hall of Fame inductee Candice Wiggins' previous record. And, she has the remainder of the 2016-17 season to add to those numbers.

Munson was to the SDSU defense what Pumphrey was to the offense, recording 116 tackles, 11 for a loss, plus 4.5 quarterback sacks. He earned All-MWC first team honors for the second straight year.
