It's a huge week for for the Toreros. Football and Volleyball are in the postseason and both basketball teams are taking on crosstown rival San Diego State for the City Championship, while the Swim and Dive team heads up to Seattle for the Husky Invite.
FOOTBALL (10-2)
This Week: The Toreros travel to No. 2 seed North Dakota State (10-1) for the second round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs on Saturday (12:30 p.m. PT). This is the second consecutive year the Toreros have played against the Bison in the FCS Playoffs.
Last Time Out: For the second consecutive year, the Toreros won a FCS playoff game after beating No. 25 Northern Arizona 41-10 last Saturday. USD totaled 439 yards of offense while the Torero defense limited the Jacks' to 238 yards. Anthony Lawrence completed 16-28 passes for 228 yards and three scores.
Need to Know: Quarterback Anthony Lawrence and defensive lineman Jonathan Petersen were named the Pioneer Football League's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively. Petersen, a unanimous choice, leads the FCS in sacks and tackles for loss.
No. 9 VOLLEYBALL (24-4)
This Week: The Toreros begin the NCAA Tournament on Friday when they take on LSU (20-9) at 5:00 p.m. at USC's Galen Center. If they advance, they would play the winner of No. 10 USC and Central Arkansas Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
Last Time Out: USD wrapped up the regular season with a 3-1 win over Pepperdine last Tuesday for their 14th consecutive win. The Toreros remained at No. 9 in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
Need to Know: Three Toreros took home major WCC postseason awards. Senior setter Kristen Gengenbacher was named the WCC Player of the Year, Roxie Wiblin was the WCC Freshman of the Year and Jennifer Petrie earned WCC Coach of the Year honors.
MEN'S BASKETBALL (5-0)
This Week: The Toreros look to stay undefeated when they host their crosstown rival San Diego State (5-2) Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. Come out and paint the JCP Blue! USD wraps up the week at Santa Barbara with a 7:00 p.m. road game on Saturday.
Last Time Out: The Toreros had a huge 72-62 win at Grand Canyon this past Saturday, holding the `Lopes to one field goal over the game's final nine minutes.
Need to Know: USD is second in the nation in three-point field goal defense, allowing their opponents to hit just 19 percent of their attempts from long distance.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (5-1)
This Week: The Toreros are in the midst of a season-long four game road swing. They play at San Diego State (Wednesday) and at Seattle (Saturday).
Last Time Out: The Toreros won at UC Santa Barbara 71-58 Monday evening. Three Toreros scored at least 15 points, led by Alexandra Hagen's career-high of 18.
Need to Know: Head Coach Cindy Fisher won her 300th career game Monday evening. 241 of those wins have come at USD.
SWIM & DIVE
This Week: The Toreros head up to Seattle for the Husky Invite this weekend.
Last Time Out: USD had a successful weekend at the A3 Performance Invitational November 17-18. Danielle Taylor had top-ten finishes in all five of her events, headlined by a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle.
Need to Know: The Toreros will host Northern Arizona and Cal State East Bay December 16 at 10:00 a.m.
