Lanoue and Mariucci join Toreros Executive Leadership Team

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- USD Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Marcy Lanoue and Tyler Mariucci for Senior Associate Director of Athletics positions, it was announced today by Bill McGillis, Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Athletics. Lanoue will be the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs, and Mariucci will be the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Development.

"These are two of the rising stars in our industry -- both are special talents and bring tremendous passion for serving the student-athletes and coaches at USD. You win with people, and we hit the jackpot with the hiring of Marcy and Tyler today."

Lanoue will lead the department's marketing, sales, communications, and branding and related revenue-generating initiatives, while also playing a significant role in USD's future fundraising efforts. In addition, she will serve as the department's Senior Woman Administrator.

"Marcy has a strong background in development, marketing and sales, and the vibrant personality, energy and joy she brings to our program will inspire everyone around her," said Bill McGillis. "She will play a pivotal role in our effort to tell the story of Torero athletics, to enhance the Torero brand, to fill the seats of Jenny Craig Pavilion, Torero Stadium, Fowler Park and our other venues, and to provide an amazing game-day experience for USD students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans."

Lanoue joins USD from Southern Miss, where she served as the Associate AD for Development since September, 2015. In her role at Southern Miss, she collaborated with the Senior Associate Athletic Director and Southern Miss Athletic Foundation team in directing and coordinating initiatives related to fundraising for Southern Miss Athletics. Lanoue was responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding gifts. She worked closely with alumni and friends of Southern Miss to determine philanthropic interests to meet department financial goals to support the education and experiences of student-athletes.

Prior to Southern Miss, Lanoue was at the University of South Florida for four years from 2011-2015. She was Coordinator of External Affairs before being elevated to Director of Development in 2013. She also worked at the University of Miami from 2009-2011 in the Hurricanes' development and ticket offices. A native of Bradenton, Fla., Lanoue graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor's degree in Communication in 2008. She got her start in athletics as an Executive Assistant to the Director of Athletics from 2006-2009.

Tyler Mariucci will serve as the chief development officer for athletics at USD. In his role, he will oversee all fundraising efforts and staff for the development office, with an emphasis on alumni outreach, major gifts and annual giving, the Torero Athletic Association and capital campaign projects. Additionally, he will serve as the sport administrator for multiple Torero teams.

"I have great confidence in Tyler's ability to lead our renewed fundraising initiatives," stated McGillis. "Engaging everyone who cares about Torero athletics, and marshaling their investment in our program, will be critical to our future success. Tyler has demonstrated the leadership, knowledge and relationship-building skills necessary to do that at three other universities, and I believe he will do the same at USD. He has learned from some of the very best fundraisers in our industry at Fresno State, Memphis and Maryland, and we are very fortunate that he is joining our team. Tyler's California roots and outstanding football pedigree will also add great value to our program."

Mariucci comes to San Diego from the University of Maryland where he has spent the last three years, most recently as the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Administration and Development. Mariucci has secured numerous major gifts, including six and seven figure donations towards capital projects and scholarships throughout his intercollegiate athletics career. At Maryland, he was a member of the AD's management team, serving as the sport supervisor for a number of their intercollegiate teams as well as playing a leadership role in all facets of the development office. During the 2014 - 16 academic years, Mariucci was part of an annual giving effort that saw unprecedented growth from $8.3M in 2014 to $11.4M in 2016. The Terrapin Club also saw significant growth in major gifts received, including the successful launch of the $155 million Cole Field House Project Capital Campaign. Tyler also represented Maryland at the conference level by serving on the Big Ten's Sport Management Committee and served on the AD's search committee that hired Head Football Coach DJ Durkin.

Prior to Maryland, he served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Development at the University of Memphis. There he managed the day-to-day operations of the athletic development office and staff, including major gifts, Tiger Scholarship Fund, and the M Club. During his time at Memphis, the development office saw a record amount of major gifts received and set an all-time record in number of luxury football suites sold in Liberty Bowl Stadium. Mariucci, who began his career in intercollegiate athletics at Fresno State, successfully raised major gifts to break ground on the $7 million Meyers Family Sports Medicine Center.

A graduate of California Polytechnic State University -- San Luis Obispo, Mariucci received his B.S. degree in Kinesiology in 2007 and M.A. in Kinesiology/Sports Management from San Jose State in 2010. Mariucci, the son of former NFL head coach Steve Mariucci, is a third generation collegiate student-athlete following the linage of his father (Northern Michigan) and grandfather (Michigan State). Tyler's wife Jennifer is a former NCAA Division I student-athlete at Fresno State in the sport of Equestrian. They have a son, Kyle.
