Fun-Filled Homecoming Weekend Planned for Oct. 4-5

The biggest USD event of the fall centers on football's conference opener

SAN DIEGO – From sneak peeks of the San Diego men's and women's basketball teams to the defending Pioneer Football League champion Toreros opening conference play, the upcoming Homecoming and Family Weekend at the University of San Diego will have an athletics-wide flair from October 4 to 5.
 
In addition to both basketball teams being on display and football beginning its defense of its fifth straight conference championships, fans will have several fun opportunities over the two days to share with the Torero family.

Here is a breakdown of 2019 Homecoming at USD Athletics:
 
Saturday, October 5
Men's Basketball Open Practice/Select-A-Seat
11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Jenny Craig Pavilion
All fans are welcome to watch the men's basketball team, coming off its first back-to-back 20-win seasons in program history, take part in an open practice. The Toreros, led by head coach Sam Scholl, feature eight newcomers, including three freshmen, two redshirts, two transfers and a junior college transfer, to go with four returning letterwinners from last year's NIT team. In addition, Torero fans can preview and select their seats for season tickets to the 2019-20 season.
 
Women's Basketball Alumni Game
12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Jenny Craig Pavilion
Following the men's basketball open practice, the women's basketball team and alumni will take the floor. Fans will have the opportunity to catch up with alumni and meet the 2019-20 team. The Toreros are looking to bounce back this year under the direction of 15-year head coach Cindy Fisher as she will lead a group of 12 returners and several newcomers.
 
Torero Tailgate
11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Vistas Parking Lot and Eagan Plaza
With a new location, Torero fans can join in on the always fun experience of the Torero Tailgate in the Vistas parking lot and Eagan Plaza. With music, games, food trucks and other surprises, all fans, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends, are invited to attend this free event before the football game and in between the basketball open practices. There will also be a USD Spirit Zone, Kids Corner, live DJ, photo booth, swage sales and student activities throughout the two locations.
 
Due to the anticipated rush of open tables, fans are welcome to purchase a reserved table or tent that accommodate up to eight people and includes eight football game tickets and a snack pack for everyone before the game. Torero Tailgate Reserved Tables are $150 while Reserved Tents are $500.
 
USD Football vs. Marist
2 p.m.
Torero Stadium
The Toreros, coming off a big win over Harvard to cap one of the most challenging nonconference schedules in program history, will begin their defense of their fifth straight conference championship when they take on Marist in the 2019 PFL opener. USD has won 29 straight conference games coming into the season and is aiming to win its eighth PFL title in nine years.
 
The game will also have the Coca-Cola Halftime Program, featuring Alumni Honors recipients.
