SAN DIEGO – Following two top-20 victories, the San Diego men's tennis program has entered the top-25 nationally, ranking No. 18 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings.
In addition,
Oliver Tarvet has reached a new personal-high in the ITA rankings, ranking No. 3 in the nation in singles.
Iiro Vasa ranks No. 52, while
Stian Klaassen and
Sacchitt Sharrma rank No. 21 in the nation in doubles.
The national ranking is the team's highest since May 4, 2022. In addition, Tarvet's ranking of No. 3 in the nation is the highest by any Torero since
August Holmgren reached No. 1 in the nation in December of 2021.
Tarvet's big week helped propel the Toreros past then No. 10 Arizona and No. 18 Arizona State and into the national rankings. The sophomore earned WCC Singles Player of the Week and Doubles Team of the Week with Vasa, behind a sensational week that saw him take down then No. 5 Colton Smith (Arizona) and No. 10 Murphy Cassone (Arizona State) in back-to-back matches.
San Diego is back in action on Saturday, hosting Washington at 12 p.m., at the Hogan Tennis Center.
