USD Athletics Names Palomar Insurance Official Specialty Insurance Partner & Official Volunteerism Partner in First-of-Its-Kind Citywide Deal

Multiyear partnership empowers USD student-athletes to drive community impact while uniting San Diego’s top collegiate sports programs.

SAN DIEGO — USD Athletics today announced a multiyear partnership with Palomar Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLMR) ("Palomar Insurance"), naming the San Diego-based insurer its Official Specialty Insurance Partner and Official Volunteerism Partner. The agreement is part of a first-of-its-kind, citywide partnership that also includes the athletic departments at San Diego State University (SDSU) and UC San Diego, uniting San Diego's three primary college sports programs under a single corporate partnership.

"At USD, our student-athletes are at the center of every decision we make," said Kimya Massey, Associate Vice President and Executive Director of USD Athletics. "This partnership with Palomar Insurance is about more than visibility — it's about creating meaningful opportunities that enhance the student-athlete experience and empower them to serve, lead, and grow beyond their field of play. We are intentional about aligning with partners who help us elevate the holistic support we provide our athletes and position USD Athletics for sustained growth in a rapidly evolving collegiate landscape. We are proud to work with an organization that shares our commitment to innovation and long-term impact."

At the heart of the agreement are Days of Service, a series of programs in which USD's 500+ student-athletes join forces with their peers at SDSU and UC San Diego to tackle pressing community needs. By creating opportunities for cross-campus engagement, student-athletes are empowered to drive a broader impact in San Diego with community service partners, including:
  • Positive Coaching Alliance: After completing leadership and coaching training, student-athletes will lead sports clinics for children, providing mentorship while teaching teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank: Student-athletes will volunteer to sort and distribute meals, supporting families facing food insecurity across the county.
  • Surfrider Foundation: Teams will participate in hands-on beach cleanups, removing debris along San Diego's coastline while educating local youth on ocean conservation and sustainable practices.
  • Rob Machado Foundation: Participants will help distribute reusable water bottles to elementary and middle school students, delivering interactive lessons on recycling, water conservation, and environmental responsibility.
  • San Diego's Ronald McDonald House: Student-athletes will prepare home-cooked meals for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, providing comfort and support to children and families during treatment.
"Palomar is proud to serve as the first Founding Partner of the One San Diego platform," said Mac Armstrong, Chairman and CEO of Palomar. "This unique partnership reflects our deep commitment to USD Athletics and to supporting the development, success, and service of local student athletes."

The partnership combines these community engagement initiatives with integrated visibility at USD Athletics' marquee events, including special activations at Torero Football and Men's Basketball games, with opportunities for its student-athletes to contribute to initiatives that strengthen the San Diego community.

Facilitated by JMI Sports — the exclusive multimedia rights partner for USD Athletics, in addition to the athletic departments at SDSU and UC San Diego – this marks the first Founding Partner agreement under its new One San Diego platform. One San Diego provides corporate partners a consistent, market-wide approach to engage with San Diego's college athletics programs, while creating incremental value for each university. The platform works alongside existing single-school partnerships, offering USD Athletics an additional avenue to connect with partners.

"USD holds a unique place in San Diego's sports ecosystem," said Erik Judson, Co-Founder and CEO at JMI Sports. "This partnership with Palomar Insurance is a perfect example of how engaging with the San Diego community can enhance USD Athletics, while empowering student-athletes to generate real community impact. We are proud to help bring local partners into the fold who understand and share USD's vision for leadership, service, and connection."
