Following a successful fall season that saw three of its sports teams advance to NCAA tournaments, the University of San Diego athletic department has been ranked 48th in the current United States Sports Academy Division I Director's Cup standings. Advancing to the NCAA Tourney this past fall were women's volleyball and both soccer teams. In addition, football finished 8-2 overall, shared the North Division PFL title, and ranked first in I-AA offense. USD was one of five West Coast Conference schools to place in the Top-50 out of 165 schools listed.

"We're extremely excited to be ranked 48th in the country out of 165 Division I programs," stated Jo-Ann Nester, Director of Athletics. "It speaks very well for the WCC to have five schools ranked in the top-50, so our conference is truly making its mark."

Michigan ranks first with 482 points and is followed by UCLA (298), Stanford (289), Maryland (275) and BYU (248). USD tallied 100 points on the strength of their three NCAA teams. These standings are based upon the completion of women's and men's cross country, field hockey, I-AA football, women's and men's soccer, and volleyball. The United States Sports Academy Director's Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.
