The University of San Diego athletics department has promoted two staff members and announced three new hires for the start of the 2003-04 academic year, it was announced today by Jo-Ann Nester, Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator.
John Martin, who has been a member of the USD staff since 1975, has been elevated to the position of Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities and Operations.  He oversees all the scheduling, field maintenance and purchasing for USD's athletic venues.  He was the department's key liason during the construction of the Jenny Craig Pavilion which opened in October, 2000.  This past year he was recognized as one of two Student Affairs Employees of the Year.
Andrew Fee, who begins his second year with the USD athletic department, was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for Faciliites and Operations.  He assists Martin with scheduling, field maintenance and purchasing for USD's athletic venues.  Prior to USD Fee was Assistant Director of Facility Operations for Athletics at Arizona State for two years.
Wendy McReynolds begins her first year as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing & Promotions.  Wendy comes to USD from Virginia Tech where she held the title of Director of Sports Marketing and Promotions since 2001.  She also gained experience at the University of Maryland and Wichita State.  She earned her B.S. degree in Sport Management from Guilford College in 1994 and her M.S. degree in Sport Management from West Virginia in 1996.
Doug Thiemann was recently named the interim head women's rowing coach.  He takes over for Leeanne Crain who left to run the Central Florida program.  Thiemanm returns to USD after a 3-year hiatus; from 1997-2000 he assisted both the men's and women's Torero programs.  This past year he was head men's coach at Loyola Marymount University.  He is entering his 20th season of involvement with rowing.
Wil Filamor, ATC, joins head athletic trainer Carolyn Greer's staff in a full-time role.  Filamor comes to USD after serving a one-year internship at UCLA.  He earned both his B.S. in Kinensiology (emphasis in Athletic Training) and M.S. degree in Kinesiology (emphasis in Biomechanics, pending Thesis) from California State University at Fullerton.  He also garnered experience as the Head Men's Baseball Athletic Trainer while a student at Cal State Fullerton, and as an intern with the San Francisco 49ers (Summer, 2000).
