The University of San Diego has selected four finalists for the position of Executive Director of Athletics, it was announced today by Dr. Robert A. Pastoor, Vice President for Student Affairs. The four candidates were chosen with input from an external group of advisors, including a number of trustees and other benefactors, as well as an internal search committee that is chaired by Mr. Bill Scripps.

The four candidates, in alphabetical order, include Mr. Brian Fogarty, current USD Director of Development for Student Affairs and Athletics; Mr. Michael Izzi, Associate Athletic Director for Development at Stanford University; Mr. Lee Moon, recent Director of Athletics at the University of Wyoming; and Mr. Ky Snyder, President of the San Diego International Sports Council. These four finalists will be invited to USD for a two-day interview process between November 4th and December 5th.

The two-day interview process will include representatives from the university administration, trustees and benefactors, the search committee, and coaches and administrative staff of the athletic department. The Search Committee will meet between December 8-12 and plan for a public announcement.

The Executive Director of Athletics will act as the CEO of the Department of Athletics and be responsible for the overall department budget, assessment of the teams and functions, fundraising for the department, all employment related issues for coaches, strategic planning, and set the future direction of the department. Dr. Jo-Ann Nester, USD's Director of Athletics, will report directly to the Executive Director of Athletics. Dr. Nester's role will continue with the responsibility for the operations of the department on a day-to-day basis with things such as game management, transportation, working with coaches on budgets, etc.

Each individual candidate brings to the table certain strengths that will be needed to fill this position. Below is brief background information on each candidate:

1. Mr. Brian Fogarty, University of San Diego. Director of Development for Student Affairs and Athletics, 1996-present; former USD head football coach (1983-96).

2. Mr. Michael Izzi, Stanford University. Associate Director of Development, 1996-present; Co-Director of Development for Major Gifts; Development Director of Annual Giving; Marketing Director where he coordinated Marketing and Football Travel, 1991-1996.

3. Mr. Lee Moon, University of Wyoming. Director of Athletics at the University of Wyoming, 1996-2003; Director of Athletics at Marshall University, 1988-1996; Associate Director of Athletics at Kansas State University, 1986-1988; and Assistant Athletics Director/Operations at Kansas State University, 1985-1986.

4. Mr. Ky Snyder, San Diego International Sports Council. President of the San Diego Sports Council, 1996-present; Executive Director of the San Diego International Sports Federation, 1996-present; President of the San Diego Super Bowl Task Force, 2000-present; USD Director of Athletic Development, 1990-1996.
