- Attended Seton Hall Prep where he earned a combined 11 varsity letters
- As a senior, helped his team take second place at conference, counties and state sectionals
- Ran the 5k in 17:25, the 3200m in 10:12 and the 1600m in 4:47
- Earned all-conference honorable mention as a senior
- Given Coaches Award (track) as a senior
- Improved his time in the 3200m 1:05 over this four years

- Born to Michele and Jake McCarthy
- Chose to attend USD for the beautiful campus, strong business school and great cross-country program
- Also recruited by Catholic University of America
- His father competed in track and cross country at Providence under legendary coach Ray Treacy
- Has wanted to live in California since he was a kid
