Anthony Lawrence was named Wide Receivers Coach in May of 2022. Lawrence rewrote the USD record books as a quarterback from 2014-2018, and remains the program’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns.
Lawrence’s long list of accolades include William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalist, three-time STATS FCS Walter Payton Award Watch List selection, two-time PFL Offensive Player of the Year, three-time All-PFL First Team, FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team, two-time PFL All-Academic First Team offense, San Diego Hall of Champions Amateur Star of the Year, STATS FCS National Freshman of the Year nominee, and four-time PFL Honor Roll honoree.
The La Mesa native threw 39 touchdown passes in 2018, which ranked tied for 15th-most in FCS history in a single season and his 4,107 yards ranked 25th all-time. His name appears frequently in the USD record books including first for passing touchdowns (120), first for passing yards (12,628), first for pass completions (961), first for total offense (12,681), second for efficiency rating (161.7), and third for completion percentage (65.5%).
Including his redshirt season in 2014, Lawrence was a member of five Pioneer Football League championship teams. As the starting quarterback from 2015-18, the Toreros went 31-1 in league play.
Lawrence spent the last three years in Osaka, Japan, where he played as a quarterback for the Panasonic Impulse in addition to coaching a high school team.
