USD sophomore Pierrick Ysern (Paris, France) won his first round match today at the 2003 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships being hosted by the University of Michigan (Nov. 6-9). Ysern defeated Florida State's Mat Cloer, ranked 22nd in the ITA Preseason polls, by the scores of 6-3, 6-1. In tomorrow's second round play Ysern will take on the tourney's No. 2 seed, Romain Ambert of Mississippi State. In the preseason ITA rankings Ambert is ranked 11th in the nation.

The ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships are the second of three national championships tournaments for Division I collegiate tennis during the 2003-04 season. The first events - the Icy Hot/ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships - took place in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Pacific Palisades, Calif., last month respectively. The season-ending NCAA Championships in May are the third tournaments.
