Pierrick Ysern had one of the best falls in San Diego tennis history this year! The sophomore from Paris, France started off the year at The ITA All American in Chattanooga, TN. He won 5 matches in a row with a huge win over Florida's Janne Homia who is ranked 5 in the nation! Ysern eventually lost in the quarterfinals in a tough three-set match. He was honored in early November when he was chosen to play in the National Indoors at the University of Michigan. This is by invitation only and for the top 32 players in the nation! He defeated Matt Cloer of Florida State 6-3, 6-1 in the first round. Cloer is No. 22 in the nation. In the round of 16 Ysern lost to Romain Ambert who is No. 10 in the nation 6-4, 6-2.
Only five players in the nation reached the round of 16 at the ITA All American and the National Indoors and Ysern was one of them! Overall for the fall he had 3 wins in the top 25 in the nation.
Coach Hagedorn adds, "Pierrick has worked very hard to achieve the results he did this semester. I don't think he has missed a practice since he came to USD. He is driven, focused and talented. Usually when you have those three things you get something pretty special and he is!"
Ysern looks to lead the Toreros this spring to a WCC Championship and a strong NCAA tournament showing!
