LAS VEGAS -- Five of the six teams in the 2003 UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational finished with a singles winner among the five flights as action concluded Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. USD's Lauren Perl won the top flight singles title.
USD sophomore Lauren Perl (San Diego, CA; Torrey Pines HS) breezed by Sandy Lukowski of New Mexico 6-2,6-2 to win the Flight One title. The Lobos, however, got a win at flight two as Maja Kovacek downed UNLV's Anne Claire Ortiz-Luis 6-2, 6-2. Alabama's Melissa Minor won the third flight while Oklahoma State's Lauren Simmons took the honors in flight four. UNLV's Lisa Lester had already won the smaller fifth flight on Saturday.
Lauren Kazarian lost her Flight Three title match to Melissa Minor of Arizona, 6-2, 6-3. In consolation singles play, the Toreros received singles victories from Emma Murphy (6-0, 6-2 over Michelle Heidbrink of New Mexico) and Tara Livesay (0-6, 3-2, retired winner over Oklahoma State's Katia Kolodynska). Jenna Anderson fell to OSU's Zana Masnic, 6-0, 6-1.
