Jason Pongsrikul WCC Player of the Month

Feb. 4, 2004

Senior Jason Pongsrikul (San Diego, CA; Point Loma HS) helped the Toreros surge up the ITA rankings during the month of January with dual match wins over No. 32 Florida State and No. 16 Tulane on the road. The then-No. 42 ranked Toreros ended Tulane's 24-match home winning streak that stretched over two seasons. The senior won both of his singles matches, beating Florida State's Jonathas Sucupira and Tulane's Theodoros Angelinos. Pongsrikul's 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 win over Angelinos came at the No. 4 spot, while his straight-set victory over Sucupira came at the No. 2 singles position. The San Diego, CA native also teamed with No. 11 ranked Pierrick Ysern to knock off Tulane's top doubles tandem, 8-5. San Diego earned a No. 27 ranking from the ITA on January 27 after their outstanding month. Pongsrikul shared the honor with Pepperdine's Clale Hansen.

The Toreros are home this weekend hosting the WCC Challenge. They face USF on Friday at 1:30 p.m., and LMU on Sunday at 1:00 pm. The USC Trojans come to the Alcala Park campus on Friday, Feb. 13th for a 1:30 p.m. match at the USD West Tennis Courts.
