(San Diego, Calif.) - The USD women's tennis team, along with San Diego State, is hosting the Division I Wilson/ITA West Region Championships this week at the Barnes Tennis Center. Following today's first round matches, Torero seniors Emma Murphy and Lauren Perl both advanced to Friday's quarterfinal matches. Both had first round byes then won today's singles match. Murphy defeated Taylynn Snyder of USC, 6-0,6-0, and Perl bested Whitney Peterson of USC, 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-2.

On Friday Murphy will face Elizabeth Lumpkin of UCLA, and Perl will play Marielle Greunig of UC Santa Barbara. The senior duo will also team together in doubles play.

Jenny Brown won her first round match, a 6-1, 6-4 victory over LMU's Serena Fermin, but lost her 2nd round match to USC's Dianne Matias, 6-1, 6-2. Likewise, Helene Lindstrand beat UofA's Camelia Todorova, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, then lost in 2nd round action to Natalie Braverman of Pepperdine, 6-2, 6-1. Sophia Vogt lost her first round match to UCI's Jessica Broadfoot, 6-4, 6-2.

In first round doubles play, two Torero teams lost in the first round. Brown and Reitz lost Mijic-Fermin of UCI, 9-8 (5), and Vogt-Lindstrand lost to UCI's Hu-Shih, 9-8 (5). Murphy and Perl will face UCSB's Pintar-Damion on Friday.
