(Fresno, Calif.) - The USD men's tennis team kicked off their 2005-06 season with competition at the 2005 Fresno State Bulldog Classic. In Flight B singles action, both Thomas Liversage and Matt Ozurovich advanced to Saturday's quarterfinal round. Liversage downed Andy Gerst of Washington, 7-6, 6-3 and Ozurovich defeated Victor Medina (FP), 6-3, 3-0, retired. Both singles and doubles play continues today on the campus of Fresno State University.
In Flight A action from the Round of 16, the Toreros saw three of their players go out in first round action with three-set losses. Oscar Plotnik lost to Jakub Cech of Fresno State, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3; Jonas Mouly was defeatd by Sergiu Moduc of Fresno State, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-1; and Mirza Koristovic was downed by Mathieu Dehaine of UCLA, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. In Flight B Round of 32 action, USD's Mike Meschede was defeated by Roberto Bianco (FP), 6-4, 6-2.
In Flight A quarterfinal doubles action, USD's Mirza Koristovic and Thomas Liversage downed Anthony Zafiris and Matt Carroll (FP), 8-5. The Toreros doubles team of Oscar Plotnik and Jonas Mouly was bested by Michael Look and Mathieu Dehaine of UCLA, 8-4. In Flight B quarterfinal doubles action, Mike Meschede and Matt Ozurovich advanced to the semifinals after beating Erik Grotemeyer and Kyle Kropf (FP), 8-5.
Saturday's matches begin at 9 am for both Flight A and B singles at the Wathen Tennis Center.
