SAN DIEGO GRABS TOP SPOT, SPORTS NETWORK CUP

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sports Network)- After completing its season with a 47-40 victory against Morehead State in the Pioneer Football League Championship, San Diego stays at No. 1 in the final Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major Top 10 Poll of 2005. The top billing means that the Toreros will be the recipient of the 2005 Sports Network Cup, to be presented on Dec. 15th, on the eve of the I-AA championship game in Chattanooga, TN. San Diego received all 26 first-place votes and 260 points in the final poll to claim a unanimous No.1 position for the sixth week in a row. The Toreros win their first-ever Sports Network Cup and claim the PFL's first such honor since Dayton won the Cup in 2002. Sacred Heart won the inaugural Cup in 2001, while Duquesne took home the hardware in 2003 and Monmouth won the cup in 2004. San Diego went 11-1 under head coach Jim Harbaugh this season.

In at No. 2 is Dayton, which finished its season two weeks ago with a 9-1 mark. Duquesne defeated St. Francis PA, 44-17, to finish 7-3 and stay at No.3. Morehead State is at No. 4, with Marist moving up one spot to No. 5. Drake is at No. 6, followed by Central Connecticut State, Monmouth, Stony Brook and Jacksonville.

The Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major Top 10 poll includes the 22 programs of the MAAC, NEC, and Pioneer Leagues, which play at a non-scholarship or limited scholarship level. An updated poll, which is based on the votes of selected media members and I-AA mid-major Sports Information Directors, is announced each Monday during the regular season.
