Josh Johnson, USD's outstanding junior quarterback, was selected the Hughes Insurance Player of the Game for the second straight week after leading USD to a 50-21 win at Davidson. He was also named the Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in five weeks this season. In the team's 50-21 win over Davidson he accounted for 437 yards of total offense, the second-most total offensive yards in I-AA this season. Johnson completed 27-of-39 passes for 310 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 11 times for 127 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown run. He becomes the first Torero quarterback to pass for 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in the same contest.
Johnson ranks nationally in six I-AA statistical categories including being first in total offense (339.5 yards per game) and points responsible for (25.50 ppg). Additionally he ranks 3rd in passing (21.50 completions per game), 5th in passing efficiency (170.5 rating), 5th in passing yards per game (271.50) and 8th in total passing yards (1,086).
