USD Toreros Compete At SDSU Fall Tennis Classic

(San Diego, CA) - The USD women's tennis team competed this past weekend at the SDSU Fall Tennis Classic, held on the campus of San Diego State. USD's Zoe Taylor came back from her opening round loss to Alabama's Alice Tunaru in Flight 2 singles play to win the consolation championship. She defeated Kathryn Kitts of SDSU (6-4, 6-4), Suzi Mansour of Fresno State (6-4, 7-5) and SDSU's Ozge Atalay in the final (6-2, 3-6, 11-9). Helene Lindstrand won her first round match over Rachael Sackmaster of Duke (5-7, 6-2, 6-0) before falling to Fresno State's Jessica Wente (6-3, 6-4). On Sunday Lindstrand rebounded for a 7-5, 6-2 win over Alabama's Alice Tunaru.

Newcomer Alexandra Demidova lost her first round match to Arizona's Tina Razloznik (6-5, ret.), and also was knocked off by SDSU's Ozge Atalay (6-3, 6-2) and Duke's Kyla Iwinski (8-4). Torero freshman Justine Perl won her opening match over Pepperdine's Alicia Poladian (6-1, 6-2), but was defeated by SDSU's Yuki Hagiwara in second round action (1-6, 6-2, 6-2). On Sunday, Duke's Kayal Smole downed Perl, 6-2, 6-3.
