Michael Gasperson To Play In NFL Europe

(San Diego, Calif.) Michael Gasperson, USD's 2004 football MVP, was recently assigned to NFL Europe by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was selected in the 9th round of the NFL Allocated Player Draft by the Cologne Centurions. Gasperson was originally added to the Eagles' roster as a rookie free agent on August 27, 2005, before being signed to the practice squad. He was waived but re-signed to the practice squad on September 27, 2005. Gasperson is USD's first player to reach NFL Europe. During his senior year at USD in 2004, Gasperson was named to The Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major All-America Team after hauling in 54 receptions for 894 yards and 7 touchdowns. He ranks 4th all-time with 116 receptions for 1,894 yards and 18 receiving TDs. He still holds the school record for touchdown receptions in a game, 5 vs. Valparaiso in 2002.
