SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Senior catcher Jordan Abruzzo of the University of San Diego baseball team has been named the West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week after helping lead USD to a 3-1 record this past week.
Abruzzo had a monster week at the plate for the Toreros as the senior from El Cajon, Calif. went 10-for-16 (.625) with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI. In Sunday's win over the University of Portland, Abruzzo went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with one RBI and three runs scored. He posted a 1.125 slugging percentage for the week and had an outstanding .650 on base percentage.
With his six hits, he has now moved into second all-time in career-hits at USD with 277, just two shy of the All-time leader Kevin Reese (1997-2000). His six RBI makes him the new all-time leader in career-RBI with 197. On the season, Abruzzo is hitting .329 with 57 hits, nine doubles, one triple, eight home runs and a WCC-best 48 RBI.
Abruzzo and the 18th-ranked Toreros will return to action on Tuesday as they take on cross-town rival San Diego State University in a 6 p.m. non-conference game at SDSU's Tony Gwynn Stadium.
