(San Diego, CA) - Broadcast Company of the Americas and the University of San Diego have picked Chris Ello to be the Torero football play-by-play announcer for the upcoming 2007 season. In May the University of San Diego and Broadcast Company of the Americas announced an agreement that grants BCA the right to carry USD men's basketball games on XX Sports Radio (1090 AM/105.7 FM) and Torero football games on San Diego1700 AM.

"We're excited to have Chris join our team," said Ky Snyder, USD Executive Director of Athletics. "He has a wealth of experience as both a radio and television announcer, and we look forward to him being the voice of USD football."

Now in his 13th year doing sports talk in San Diego, Chris has been with XX Sports Radio the past four years. Between 1994 and 2002 Chris hosted a show on XTRA Sports 690 called, `The World of Sports according to Chris Ello'. During his time with XTRA he began to do play-by-play where he covered the San Diego Sockers (1994-95), the San Diego Wildcards (1996), the San Diego Gulls (1996 thru 2006) where he twice was named the WCHL announcer of the year, and the San Diego Spirit (2001). The versatile announcer has also called play-by-play for Padres spring training games; CIF high school football championship games for Channel 4 the past eight years; San Diego State football and men's basketball; USD men's basketball and baseball; and arena football for both the San Diego Riptide (2002-05) and Shockwave (2007).

"Having followed USD sports since the days when they threw Hank Egan (former men's basketball coach) into the Sports Center swimming pool after winning the 1987 WCC hoops title, I'm very excited about this opportunity to be part of the upcoming Torero football season," said Chris Ello. "USD, obviously, is coming off a great year, and I look forward to spending Saturday afternoons and evenings this fall with the team's growing legion of fans and followers."

A 1985 graduate of San Diego State University, Chris earned his bachelor's degree in Journalism. While attending SDSU, Chris played two seasons (1980-81) on the baseball team where he was a pitcher, and was also the sports editor of the Daily Aztec school newspaper in 1984-85. Prior to beginning his broadcasting career, Chris worked as a sportswriter for the Los Angeles Times (San Diego County Edition) from 1984 to 1989. Among his assignments was the beat writer for USD football and basketball. Between 1989-90 he was a sportswriter-columnist for the Pasadena Star-News where he covered the Lakers, Raiders, Dodgers, Angels, UCLA and USC.

Chris and his wife, Lori, reside in Rancho San Diego.
