USD Head Coach Bill Grier Agrees To Contract Extension

(San Diego, CA) - University of San Diego men's head basketball coach Bill Grier has agreed to terms on a new contract extension to the original multi-year deal he accepted in March of 2007, it was announced today by Ky Snyder, USD Executive Director of Athletics. Terms of the agreement are not for release.

"We are excited with the job Bill Grier and his whole staff have done this year," said Ky Snyder. "We are happy to reach an agreement on an extension."

Grier, who has the Toreros heading to the 2008 NCAA Tournament in his first year, has compiled an overall record of 21-13. USD is a No. 13 seed and will take on No. 4 seed UCONN this coming Friday, March 21st, in the second game of the First Session at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa Bay, Florida.

"I'm very appreciative of the opportunity here," said Bill Grier. "I feel very blessed to be here. I'm equally appreciative of how the school has helped our staff, and how everyone welcomed me and my family. I'm certainly excited about our future here, and hopefully we can build off of this season."

The Toreros enter the NCAA Tourney having won five straight and thirteen of their last fifteen games. USD's 11-3 WCC mark was good for third place, and the 11 league wins is the second most in a season in program history. USD won three games against Pepperdine, Saint Mary's and No. 20 Gonzaga to win the WCC Tournament and league's automatic bid to the NCAAs. In addition to knocking off two top-20 teams in Saint Mary's and Gonzaga, the Toreros also earned a road win over Kentucky in historic Rupp Arena.
