NBA's Suns holding training camp at USD

Oct. 1, 2009

The Jenny Craig Pavilion is hosting the NBA's Phoenix Suns for their preseason camp. Two-a-day workouts began on Wednesday, September 30th, and are expected to wrap up by October 5th. Phoenix had held its training camp at the University of Arizona in Tucson in three of the past four years (2005, 2007 and 2008). The Suns' 2006 camp was held in Treviso, Italy, as part of the NBA Europe Live Tour. Prior to that the Suns trained in Flagstaff from 1986 to 2004 and stayed at home to train in 1997, 1998 and 2003.

Stated Suns General Manager Steve Kerr on Wednesday when he was a guest on XX Sports Radio's 1090 AM morning show with Scott Kaplan and Billy Ray Smith, "The best thing about being in San Diego is the facility. The Jenny Craig Pavilion is just perfect for our training camp. It is an intimate setting, and the acoustics are great so it's not hard to hear the coach. They are just awesome people there. All the USD staff have been so accommodating. It's a nice chance for our players to bond and kind of get away and get a fresh start this year."

Workouts are closed to the public.
